Grown up verses toddler: when it rains
Jayne Nottage
I love heat. We have a conservatory that is a sauna on a sunny day and sometimes before I open the doors to let the heat out I stand there, reveling in the feeling of being just that little bit too hot. But today I have got the woolen socks back on with my large hoody and am slightly mourning the lack of sun. Whereas my son was begging (begging for a 15 month old is banging with a hard wooden toy on the back door while making loud 'eh-er!' sounds) to go outside even though it was raining.
I love the carefree, joyful nature of children. Little Man wasn't staring out the window frustrated that kicking a ball around would no longer be fun as it was raining, he just wanted to be outside. Us adults too often let the little things (a few of mine; being cold, traffic, losing things, running late, chewing loudly, a lost child's shoe, a dirty nappy just as you get in the car and so many more!) affect our mood negatively. Today Little Man has taught me that I need to not let these niggly things get in the way of enjoying the day and instead to don my mac, grab my wellies and enjoy playing in the rain.
He was so keen to get outside that I didn't even manage to get a coat on him.
After 10 minutes of football in the rain Little Man was only coaxed in with the offer of a bubbly bath (I need to invest in a waterproof all in one).
